COMP253 - Winter 2005 Semester |
Yanni's Note:
To everyone, thanks for letting me share a wonderful semester with you.
Of all the courses I teach, COMP253 is the only one that lets me play and talk about the latest technologies (or as much as the CANLab can afford)...even I admit that I act like a kid in a toy store sometimes. Binary representation and Boolean logic withstanding, I like to think I have shared some of my enthusiasm about the gadgets we get to play with.
Yet in all seriousness, it is important to note that the technology we worked over the semester defines your future careers. Although you are being trained as programmers, managers, and application developers, all positions will involve your involvement with the knowledge of computer architectures you have learned (and someone has to know how to fix this stuff, right?). From the constant change (or evolution) of technology, you will be challenged, stimulated, and rewarded. I can only hope I was able to convey some of the necessary knowledge and experience that you will need.
For those of you that decide to continue in CSOM (I hope, all), I offer you all the support, admiration, and mental stimulation I know you require--you will make it! Why? Because I did!
In the next semester you will sharpen your skills and knowledge, all in preparation for your first work term.
My words of advice are,
- learn your lessons well, and apply your knowledge wisely
- do not dwell on your successes, and never forget your mistakes (grow from both)
- share your experiences with others, and always keep your eyes and ears open far wider than your mouth
- and don't forget what you learned in COMP253--COMP263 assumes you remember everything!!
If you ever have questions, or just want to talk, my office door is always open (except when it's closed--hee,hee).
A truly appreciate that you were able to share early mornings, some crazy workshop sessions, and yourselves--you've been a wonderful group.
So again, thanks for letting me be your teacher, if for at least one semester.(If you have any questions, the best way to contact me is an e-mail via giftakis@yahoo.com )
Peace,
--Yanni
